The Los Angeles Lakers never looked back after a hot start, defeating the Miami Heat 130–120 on Sunday night behind Luka Doncic’s all-around brilliance and Jake LaRavia’s breakout showing.
Los Angeles opened the game with an 8–0 run and dictated the pace from the jump. Jaxson Hayes, filling in for the sidelined Deandre Ayton (back soreness), gave the Lakers an early boost with 11 first-quarter points.
As the game settled, Luka Doncic began to assert himself offensively, while Marcus Smart brought grit and defensive intensity in his starting role. Despite missing key rotation pieces, the Lakers maintained poise and energy. Still, Miami’s Jaime Jaquez Jr. — electric off the bench with 31 points — kept the Heat within striking distance.
The third quarter briefly tested Los Angeles. Miami trimmed an 18-point deficit to single digits, outscoring the Lakers 35–25 in the frame. But when the game tightened late, Smart came up clutch — burying a crucial three-pointer and drawing a technical foul for chirping at the Heat bench, igniting the Crypto.com Arena crowd.
Doncic Does It All — Again
Even on a night where he wasn’t at his sharpest, Luka Doncic still delivered the kind of stat line most players dream about: 29 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists — marking the 83rd triple-double of his career. All 11 boards came on the defensive end, and he added three steals, anchoring both the offense and the defense with his usual calm dominance.
LaRavia Steals the Spotlight
While Doncic was his usual self, Jake LaRavia turned heads with the best game of his young career. Coming off the bench, the forward erupted for 25 points on a mix of dunks, cuts, and confident drives. He also added eight rebounds, three assists, and four steals — a relentless two-way effort that gave the Lakers’ second unit a much-needed spark.
“Jake changed the game for us tonight,” head coach Darvin Ham said postgame. “His energy was contagious — exactly what we needed.”
