Skip Bayless Calls Austin Reaves the “Greatest Undrafted Player Ever” After 38-Point Night

After Austin Reaves erupted for 38 points in the Lakers’ win over Dallas, Skip Bayless declared him the greatest undrafted NBA player of all time.

The Los Angeles Lakers continued their dominant stretch on Friday night with a 129–119 win over the Dallas Mavericks, and while the storyline centered around Luka Dončić facing his former team, another Laker stole the spotlight: Austin Reaves.

Reaves delivered one of the best performances of his career, dropping a game-high 38 points, including six three-pointers, while thriving alongside Dončić and LeBron James. The breakout showing sparked major reaction across the basketball world — including from sports personality Skip Bayless, who made a bold proclamation.

Bayless took to social media shortly after the game, calling Reaves the “greatest undrafted NBA player ever.”

“Austin Reaves (38 tonight with Luka and LeBron playing) is the greatest undrafted NBA player ever and has to make the All-Star team,” Bayless posted on X.

Bayless’ statement places Reaves in rare company among undrafted legends such as Ben Wallace, Udonis Haslem, Bruce Bowen, and Fred VanVleet. And based on his early-season production, the argument is gaining momentum.

Reaves spoke postgame about his performance, crediting the gravity created by Dončić and James.

“I finally made the threes, so that was nice,” Reaves said. “Luka draws so much attention. Bron obviously gets the majority of attention too. I just run around, find open spots, and knock down shots — hopefully big shots.”

LeBron James, meanwhile, made it clear that his confidence in Reaves is nothing new.

“Nothing shocks me,” James said. “I told y’all a long time ago — he can f**** play**. He’s great.”

Reaves has been on a tear to start the season. Through 15 games, he is averaging:

  • 28.5 points per game
  • Elite efficiency from deep
  • A growing role as a late-game scorer
  • Consistent impact next to Dončić and James

The Lakers, now 14–4, will look to extend their winning streak to seven games on Sunday when they face the New Orleans Pelicans.

If Reaves keeps playing at this level, the All-Star conversation — and Bayless’ claim — won’t quiet down anytime soon.
