The Los Angeles Lakers continue to fine-tune their roster, and the latest adjustment includes rewarding one of their most productive G League contributors. According to reporting from ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel, Drew Timme is in the process of being signed to a two-way contract, allowing the big man to join the main roster and suit up for NBA action.
With the team finally healthy again—following the returns of LeBron James and Gabe Vincent—the Lakers recently reassigned Bronny James and rookie Adou Thiero to the South Bay Lakers. That move created an opportunity for further development at the NBA level, and Timme has quickly played his way into that vacancy.
G League breakout earns NBA shot
Timme has been one of South Bay’s most productive players to start the 2025-26 season. The 25-year-old forward was recently named G League Player of the Week, averaging:
- 30.0 points
- 7.0 rebounds
- 4.7 assists per game
Standing 6-foot-9 and 235 pounds, Timme has shown the polished interior scoring, decision-making, and ball-handling touch that defined his four-year college career.
Strong collegiate résumé
Timme went undrafted in 2023, but his time at Gonzaga University made him one of the most recognizable players of his class. As a senior, he delivered elite production:
- 21.2 points per game
- 61.6% shooting
- 7.5 rebounds
- 3.2 assists
- 1 block
He later earned NBA experience with the Brooklyn Nets, appearing in nine games last season and averaging 12.1 points and 7.2 rebounds in over 28 minutes per contest.
More frontcourt depth for the Lakers
With the Lakers performing well out of the gate and sitting near the top of the Western Conference standings, adding another versatile big gives head coach JJ Redick additional options to stabilize bench rotations.
If Timme can translate his G League efficiency and maturity to NBA minutes, he could offer frontcourt scoring, hustle, and size for a Lakers team pushing for championship aspirations.
